This has been a long time coming has it not!

INFLUENCES
Since the mid to late seventies us Brits have seen So many transitions In, Music.

From the Dizzy heights of the Disco scene, to the ultra real, Urban streets that spawned the birthplace of Electro funk, and Hip Hop in the mid eighties. But through all this excitement the U,K soul scene had a very strong Identity, just like the fashion explosion in the 60,s the mid eighties saw our fashion flourish an almost explosion of colour , I can remember warming up for Walshie n Blackburn in 1986 in a Newly refurbished wine bar called the Station in welling Kent one Tuesday evening hosting the Radio London Soul nights out “ Commenting to the guys that there was more colour bellow The Dance ,floor than above them, since the turn of the decade colourful clothes appeared cool ! Almost a stark contrast of the hard times that had fallen on Most of us caused by the Government in term at this time!

RAPTURE
Can you all remember what it was like, how exciting it was to jump on a train to visit all those record stores, as I think you guys have gathered! I did spend bundles on 12”s but it was the albums, such was the strength of there content, Even today, Gems are being discovered on B-sides of theses mostly imported moulded plastic pieces of heaven. The buzz created by Anita, Bakers RAPTURE album, that coincided with U k dates, George Howard’s Dancing in the sun album/ George Bensons SHIVER lp,/ 1984s Change, CHANGE OF HEART, favourite track Warm ! / Najee and NAJEE,s theme , So many more! Sorry if I have missed yours! I could not wait to get them home, mostly I did not? Opening the import plastic was an art form in it self, even going as far as smelling that imported vinyl and all air trapped inside before seal.

Whas it worth the wait!

We can all say how special soul music is, well it must be! As all i need to do is close my eyes, and be transported back to a soul moment in my life recorded for all eternity, and I definitely remember grooving every time a Soul sound bellowed from the radio or television, listening and Dreaming of a day when Soul would not be An alternative, Misunderstood, and seriously underrated genre of music, Now here we are in 1988 some ten years from those very days, funny A DANCE DECADE ago.

This is the year truly believe our music became So strong, that it committed suicide

No more could it be i gnored, For years now the driving force of all CLUB WORLD, So tell me! If the clubs and radio stations playing all there tunes, that’s exposure right , that means record sales right ! How come then Soul music has not dominated the mainstream charts, let’s do an example ALISON WILLIAMS I Need your loving. How come the raw essence of this groove did not catapult this tune to no.1!!

KNOW THE ANSWER! I do!

I think you do to! In 1988 our music evolved dj,s became producers, A very tired POP culture had to tap in on these phenomena’s happening to music, Public enemy on the fantastic Def Jam hit it right on the button ,with Don’t believe the hype , Farley jack master funk, told you to Think, The soul we knew returned to its old stomping grounds, The underground. Exactly were i like it. There is so much more, but hey, there’s always the next time we celebrate, what i call THE DANCE DECADE..
